Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.
Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.
The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.
Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.
Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).
Christchurch college is a must-visit place. The walk along the banks of the Thames from Kennington to Oxford is quite lovely. The city is very walkable, with much of historical interest. The contrast of the very old buildings and the vitality of the university vibe is great! Busses are everywhere in that old town - very user-friendly public transit.

Oxford is a fabulous destination.
Oxford is a fabulous destination. It has stunning architecture (even if you don't like architecture!) A vibrant social life. Speed limits in many areas make it a safe place to wander. Transport options are excellent. There is a calmness to the city which is charming. Lots of open spaces to relax in, meet friends and enjoy nature.

The Ashmolean museum is a must in Oxford and you need to allow at least a half day to see it. The historic buildings at every turn are delightful and visiting some of the colleges is very worthwhile. Our favourite that we went to was Balliol. We were disappointed with Magdalen college which had large grounds but not much access to the buildings. We were staying out on the Banbury road and ate one night at Mamma Mia pizzeria which was excellent and they accommodated our vegan and garlic allergy very well. You need to book as it gets very busy, even on week days. We bought day passes for the 3 main bus companies which were very good value.

We had a two day trip which was perfect. There isn’t a lot to see or do.
You need to have a walking tour to see the colleges and learn history. You can book to go inside a number of the buildings. The botanical garden is a lovely visit. A river trip is a good experience.
There are some very good English pubs in the city and surrounding areas worth a visit.
Blenheim Palace is worth a visit but is 30 minutes away.
It’s not a shopping city.

I liked being outside teh city centre - with Oxford you need to be right in the city (often expensive) or right out. In summer the tourist crowds can be oppressive outside teh colleges, so it's nice to hve a peaceful place to come back to.
Tripadviser has great recommendations.

It is a very beautiful, intricate and fascinating place with wonderful museums and a wide range of events and activities every day and evening. The local people are very hospitable, kind and accommodating. So many people were happy to help me and give me advice or just have a conversation with a visitor.
Had to rearrange the date for our booking after the deadline for cancelling our original booking, which they were happy to accomodate without penalty. The staff all did their best throughout the stay.
Room was fine, the garden was very pleasant to sit in, breakfast while not as extensive a range as some hotels was just what we needed.
Walking distance to the city centre, which was good as parking in the centre is very expensive.
Would stay again for a city break in Oxford.
The gentleman who checked us in was great. We felt really welcome. The room was very nice, comfortable, clean, and well stocked. The hotel itself was an attractive property. The dinner we had our first night was excellent and the service was good, if a little slow. We liked the fact that we were allowed to keep our car in their parking lot for free after checkout so that we had more time to tour Oxford.
The "superior" room was splendid - ample room (indeed 2), chairs, facilities, shower all fine. The location was excellent, in central Oxford, overlooking a lesser street and Oxford Union, so light, if not entirely quiet
when windows were open on hot night - but fine and appropriate. Hotel was small and personal. Staff were efficient/polite + very helpful - good at luggage management.
Great Central Oxford location. Plenty of good shopping, 6eating and drinking places nearby.
Nothing fancy about the hotel but just what is needed for a brief city centre stay. Staff helpful, room small but comfortable, good bathroom.
No parking at hotel but the Oxford park and ride schem⁶e works well with frequent buses. Good taxi services too. Please
The Old Bank Hotel is located in downtown Oxford, literally across the street from the campus of Oxford University. The facilities are excellent. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was included and the wait staff was responsive to requests. The room itself was luxurious. Best bathtub I have ever seen.
Hotel was perfect location for our dinner at Somerville College and for all the sites of Oxford 12 min walk to city centre & hotel has parking. Staff were very obliging & the room super comfortable & thoughtfully resourced with for example fresh milk. Food is good enough and certainly well cooked and tasty.
Hotel smells great the moment you walk in, staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious. Facilities excellent, enjoyed pool, steam room and sauna. Breakfast fabulous with great variety. Bus stop right outside to go into Oxford City Centre. Will definitely be returning!
Location & parking. We booked this hotel due to it's proximity to Oxford City centre & that parking was available. There was no issue with us arriving a couple of hours before check-in and leaving the car in the car park whilst we walked into the centre.
The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. Whilst there was nobody actually working at the hotel, when I called through the woman I spoke with was very pleasant. It was an easy walk to the centre of Oxford.
Fantastic location for visiting Oxford and free parking. The room was ready by 12 and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was enjoyable and our room at the back of the hotel was lovely and quiet.
The location couldn't have been more central and the hotel had a lot of character, situated in an old building in the heart of Oxford. The tea/coffee making facilities were good with nice biscuits.
Our stay was lovely, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, the rooms were charming, and the food and drink delicious! this was the best pub I’ve ever stayed in during visits to England.
The hotel was beautifully British with updated yet old world finishes, comfort and charm. The room was well appointed and the bed very comfortable. Exactly the experience I would expect in Oxford!
The hotel was clean, fresh and comfortable and the staff very helpful. Exceptionally fast broadband. Excellent breakfast. Easy parking on site. Bus to Oxford city centre right outside the hotel.
Really nice hotel. Great easy access into Oxford city centre just a short, regular bus ride away. Staff were very friendly and room was lovely. Breakfast was excellent.
